2024 marks a new start for our Community Grants Programme as we bring together both Community Hubs and NE Core Funding into one single grant-funding initiative – The Greggs Foundation Community Grants Programme.

The Greggs Foundation Community Grants Programme supports organisations striving to make a difference in their communities. With grants of up to £20,000 per year for a maximum of two years, the programme aims to support not-for-profit organisations addressing the challenges facing their local areas.

Core Funding

By offering core funding grants through the community grants programme, we acknowledge the difficulties many charitable organisations encounter in accessing resources to cover the fixed costs to continue their work without additional financial strain.  Feedback from charitable organisations has stressed the importance of core funding, and the difficulties in accessing it, and we have responded by ensuring our community grants address this.

Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for a grant, organisations must be not-for-profit and demonstrate a clear understanding of the issues affecting their communities. Priority is given to organisations located near Greggs Outlets (shops with the red signage), especially those in areas of social deprivation. The programme supports initiatives focused on addressing local needs, providing food and support, reducing isolation, and fostering knowledge, confidence, and opportunities.

Geographic Focus

A portion of the funding is specifically allocated to organisations in the North East of England, including Northumberland, Tyne and Wear, Durham, and Teesside. This regional focus aims to address historical funding disparities and support communities where Greggs was originally founded – much like the former North East Core Funding Programme

Application Process

The Greggs Foundation Community Grants Programme opens for applications four times a year and funding rounds will be announced on our website and via social media. It's essential for applicants to carefully review the eligibility criteria and ensure their projects align with the programme prior to making an application.

Funding Source and Criteria

The programme is part-funded by annual donations from Greggs and a portion of the profits from Greggs Outlets. By selling unsold food products at reduced prices and channelling profits back into local communities, Greggs is meeting the commitments set out in the Greggs Pledge to build stronger, healthier communities.

The Greggs Foundation Community Grants Programme is helping power local communities to drive positive change. By providing vital funding and support, we want to support organisations to address the pressing needs of their local area and build stronger, more resilient communities across the UK.

You can find more information on the programme and eligibility criteria on our community grants page and also in our FAQ’s.
